The 2013 Puerto Vallarta Mardi Gras
UPDATE
We have been working with the Vallarta Director of Tourism and he has helped us to get around the blockage in another part of the government. Unfortunately it is too late to organize a parade for this year, but we are hosting a Mardi Gras Masquerade Party on the new Los Muertos Pier on Monday night, February 11, from 7 to 10pm. This event is free and open to all. We will have live entertainment and the neighboring restaurants will be offering fine food and drinks for sale.
Expect many surprises.
Wear a mask!

It cost me $150, but I just cancelled my planned trip to PV for Mardi Gras 2013. But I am so happy that I went in 2012 when I had the most fun ever in that great town. It is also, perhaps, a good sign that the over all economy is improving when the city officials can make decisions that limit tourism.
Hope there is one in 2014…..
We have attended a number of carnivale type parades and celebrations in various cities over the years. In our opinion PV admin should send a committee to Merida to check, out their carnivale celebration week It remains a family oriented and Mexican parade with an extra children’s parade on a different day. There is entertainment and music and lots of beer and food and many, many tourists attending spending lots of money on seats and libations. PV could certainly use a boost like this type. When trying to develop tourism and identity it is important to keep with Mexican values and the traditions of fiesta and not turn PV carnival into a gay celebration even if it was begun within the gay community. This is still a Mexican city.
A gay pride parade that’s TOO gay? I don’t get it.
Will there be a real mardi gras parade at all this year? Or just the family festival. Just want to know whether or not I should change my travel plans.
Thanks.
Booo…another exciting event ruined by Gay/Straight politics. Get over yourselves people.
We are no longer in charge. Please direct your comments to the City of Puerto Vallarta.
The city has said that it would not issue a parade permit for us.
Let the city organize its own parade and the original committee need to hold its own event… If I recall, the city did not start this event, and the GAY community has been part of this since the very start… So lets organize a real GAY event in PV that will attract way more tourists…
Make it a CIRCUIT event….
I think your new approach towards family values is a great one because it is “all-inclusive” to all generations and genders of people. Costumes can certainly be colorful and somewhat provocative but must respect that modesty is also a desired trait in our communities. I believe your new approach will make everyone feel comfortable to join in. Certainly some clubs can have added events that are more adult orientated. As tourists we look forward to a great parade and seeing children and adults all having fun together:-).
Looks like this excellent effort will die in 2013, due to unfortunate censorship issues. Too bad! It could do a lot for tourism in the area.
That may or may not be correct. We (the people who have previously run the parade) have been fired by the city of Vallarta and we do not know what their plans are at this time.
We understand you will have the Carnival parade on February 12, 2013. Correct?
What is the parade route and when will it begin?
Thank you.
